The real star of the Commodore Show

The stars are coming out for the 11th Official Commodore Show in London, on June 3 to 5, Olympic gold medalist Tessa Sanderson, TV celebrity Adam Faith, Radio One disc jockey Bruno Brookes, Chelsea soccer players and many other famous names will be joining the throng at the Novotel. Hammersmith.
But the real star of the show will undoubtedly be the Amiga – now beginning to make a real impression in the UK computer marketplace.
Highlight of the first day will be a seminar on Amiga graphics capabilities – the very area of performance which is spearheading the machine’s breakthrough into home, education and business sectors.
Leading experts in the field of computer graphics will be making presentations and answering questions from Amiga users.
Early indications are that there will be plenty of new products for the Amiga making their debut at the show.
Among the more colourful is a DTP package called Comic Setter from HB Marketing. It allows users to create their own cartoons in colour – incorporating characters, backdrops and even speech bubbles in a variety of fonts – all at a price of under £100.
Adamsoft will be displaying a range of software for the Amiga that has been specially imported fro m America for the show.
‘rhe Novotel will also be the launching pad for three new Amiga packages – word processor TextPro. assembler program AssemPro and powerful database DataRet-rieve – priced around £50 but offered at special show prices.
Catering for the more advanced Amiga user, Ariadne Software will give the first public showing of its new interactive communications system, priced £500.
It comprises Microtext, an authoring language to help create computer-based dialogue for interactive video productions, and the Video Player Device, software that enables the user to control any laser disc, compact disc or video tape player with an RS232 port.
Also on show for the first time is Ariadne’s new Amiga video editor for use with Sony U-Malic tape recorders. And details will be available of the Amiox expansion board for the Amiga 2000 which contains a further eight serial and four parallel ports.
Metacomco – designer of the Amiga operating system — is launching an enhanced version of its popular Pascal package.
New features include random access, separate compilation, dynamic strings and a user interface to the Amiga Dos. Price £89.95.
Evesham Micros will be selling a 3.5 inch double-sided disc drive with a storage capacity of 880k for £99.95.
Meedmore Distribution vs launching its Am-Com interface cable which allows the Amiga to use printers originally designed for use with the Commodore 64 and 128. Price £79.95.
On the lighter side, three new games will be released by Anco Market – Pinball Wizard price £19.95, Mike the Magic Dragon and City Defence priced £14.95 each.
The show will also feature a number of specific attractions for Amiga users. These include a special section for music makers, and Business World which is almost a complete show within the show.
Plus there’s a chance to see all the latest entertainment and serious software in action – and an opportunity to talk to many of the names behind the programs, the authors of top Amiga packages.
